Since it's slightly less than easy to glean the rules from the sidebar, here's an itemized collection of rules. For example, the schadenfreude rule can be referred to as a)1.

a) Posts must be uplifting.

  1. This excludes schadenfreude.^[1]^
Try !politicaloptimism@piefed.social instead if the subject involves powerful people.

b) Posts must not overtly deal with toxic politics.^[1]^

c) Links must not be low-effort.^[1]^

  1. Links must not go to a copy of a copy of a copy.
(Try finding the original source instead! Links do not have to be textual, so there's no need to find a content farm to post a video.)
  2. Posts must not be fake news.

d) Comments should foster open discussion.

  1. Negativity/spreading doom and gloom in comments is currently allowed.^[2]^
  2. Comments be civil and must not include personal attacks towards other commenters or non-public figures. (Swearing is allowed as long as it isn't directed towards those.) Please engage with others' points respectfully and fully.
The rest of the lemmy.world instance rules apply here as well.

Before the Yurok-led reintroduction effort began in 2008, the last free-flying condor in Northern California was documented during the early 1900s in Humboldt County.

From a low of 22 birds in 1989, the California condor population has grown to 607 as of 2025 — with 392 now flying free in the wild, said Williams-Claussen.

the article does a great job of explaining some of the work behind these programmes!

Jab brought ‘unprecedentedly strong responses’ in patients whose disease had become resistant to chemotherapy and immunotherapy

In an international trial spanning 11 countries, the injection was offered to patients whose cancer had spread or come back and whose disease had failed to respond to other treatments.

In the trial, 102 patients with head and neck cancer, the world’s sixth most common cancer, were given the jab. Tumours shrank or disappeared completely in 43 patients, including 28 whose tumours shrank significantly and 15 who saw them eradicated entirely.

It’s a thumbs up from the country’s 3 million students, who can now buy cheap meals up to twice a day

This month, after a survey showed that almost half the student population were skipping meals because they could not afford to eat, the French government announced that €1 meals, previously means-tested and limited to students with scholarships, would be extended to all.

Weirs, culverts and sluices among 602 barriers demolished in year in attempt to restore 15,500 miles of rivers by 2030

Restoring rivers to their natural state helps wildlife thrive, though researchers caution that it can also present new risks. A study last year found artificial barriers could slow the spread of invasive species, presenting a “connectivity conundrum” in which barrier removals may allow new threats to travel from one part of a river to another.

Established in 2021, the center uses artificial intelligence (AI) for comprehensive emergency response, monitoring 900 CCTV cameras across 17 of Seoul's 21 pedestrian-accessible Han River bridges. Beyond suicide prevention, its most frequent task, the center also handles criminal tracking, traffic accidents and drug enforcement.

...

Much of that credit goes to AI, which triggers an alarm if an object identified as a person remains for more than 300 seconds in a bridge's "loitering zones," sections where people are able to stand for extended periods.

James Walker, a professor emeritus of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Leeds, said the research had helped to “cut through the noise” regarding recent concerns regarding whether medications taken by mothers during pregnancy could affect their babies.

“The practical message is straightforward” Walker said. “Women with moderate or severe depression should not stop their antidepressants in pregnancy out of fear of causing autism or ADHD. Depression that goes untreated in pregnancy carries real risks of its own, for the mother, the pregnancy and for the developing baby, including a higher chance of premature birth, postnatal depression and difficulties bonding with the baby. For milder depression, talking therapies and other non-medication approaches are usually tried first, in line with current guidelines. As always, decisions in pregnancy are personal and should be made with a clinician who knows the woman’s history.”
