Women only trans inclusive This is an inclusive community for all things women. Whether you're here for make up tips, feminism or just friendly chit chat, we've got you covered.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.

Most of us that wear make up have something we can't go without. Whether it's a trusted eyeliner brand, blusher, lippy or other we're often totally committed to it. What's yours?

Online dating is normality now. What are some red flags you should avoid?

So, last night I had to attend a wake. I don't know if it's only a European thing, my sisters overseas might have to google that one up just in case, but yeah, it was odd. At some point one of my best friends waltzed in with this HUGE guy, like 2 meters tall, and his tiny wife went along as well. My good friend apparently told them who I am, and the huge ass guy and his tiny wife immediately went FAN MODE:

Yoooo, your album from 2008 is in our cupboard!

I'm a shy person and being this overwhelmed with fans, that was very strange and scary to me at first. But we had a good run. Just talking about music nonstop.

To me, which I could laugh about, was the fact that I'm doing very, very different music these days, playing a different instrument, just doing my thing and yeah, I had to share phone numbers with them so I can share what I'm doing now.

A really, really weird, but fun night. Music nerds meeting another music nerd... :D

We're in a society that expects a ridiculous amount off us, and is highly critical of us. It can be hard for us to see the positives in ourselves.

What do or should people admire about you?

I know parents in this group are gonna spend all weekend entertaining their kids, giving them lifts, doing their washing or trying to do errands whilst parenting. No matter how rewarding it is, it's 2 days of the hardest job anyone could do and you're amazing ✨️

So, a bit of background about me. I play the drums for fun, used to be a professional musician in the past and basically quit after losing most of my hearing during a live gig with my former band back in 12/2008.

I only started drumming about 10 months ago, I became fairly good quick thanks to some amazing teachers, but only play in my rented session room 4 fun. That is my personal safe space and my version of self therapy.

There's no BS going on in there, just me, drums, a couch for naps, a laptop with webcam for my teachers and a mini fridge for cool drinks.

I suffer from Dysthymia and right now I'm going through a phase of so called double depression again thanks to new meds I couldn't deal with. My thoughts were getting darker and darker, which is almost impossible in the first place, and my energy levels went straight to zero.

Got a text message last night and I thought: 'Ughhh, what's it now? Who wants something from me?' while snug up in my bed.

Yeah, who was that? One of my amazing teachers from the States (I live in Europe) and he was like:

Yooo, haven't heard from you in like two weeks? You doing okay? You good? You haven't booked any new training sessions either.

Yeah, not doing so great right now. It is what it is. Can't say when I want to book a new session to be honest. Everything's fucked in my head right now.

How about you get your ass out of bed and jam with me? I don't want your money, I just want to play with you together, because I think you're awesome and I love your style. I'll never charge money from you ever again, that's a promise. I just want to play along with you, girl!

THAT was a huge compliment. A living music legend like him saying he likes my style?

So, I took my bicycle, hauled my arse over to my session room - which is about 25 minutes away in the middle of nowhere (I live in the countryside) and we just played for about 3 hours until we were both so exhausted, just laughing together, sharing stories and we kicked back a few cold ones via webcam.

That dude is so amazing and chill. And I want to thank him for getting me out of this very dark place last night.

It's quite simple, you say things you love but there's something you loathe about them.

So for example "I love Angelina Jolie! I loathe that we will never meet".

Have fun!

You can't be feminist without including some of the most vulnerable women in society

When something great happens in your life how do you celebrate?

Here are a few things I do:

  • buy a bouquet of flowers for my partner
  • go to a nice restaurant
  • bake or cook something special, esp. a sweet treat like cake, cookies, etc.

They often do general token things like "hire women"

I like a loose pair of elastic pajama pants. When my tshirts get too ratty for regular wear, they enter the pajama rotation. I hate being naked because I am clumsy, and the thought of my skin scraping the doorframe as I walk by is heinous.

Also cannot stand being in pajamas all day. Unless I'm really sick, I need to put on day clothes for at least a few hours or it'll trigger depression.

I had one inserted 10 odd years ago, and the ladies(!) who did it had zero sympathy and wouldn't even give me Tylenol. I had to take it out 2 days later. Never again.

This is a 2 minute reel explaining consent using preparing tea. Great resource to share with others!

Women still do the bulk of household chores, management, raising kids and the mental load of it all. When cohabiting, how have you shared them, and how did it effect you?

How do you guys decide on what size clothing to buy when you're shopping online.

There are a few online-only stores I'd like to try, but they don't have free returns.

From a UN Development Programme statement:

In 62 countries, consensual same-sex sexual relations between adults in private are criminalized, with 12 of these countries even imposing the death penalty for such relations.

  • Hate crime and hate speech on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics are prohibited in Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Malta, and some regions in Spain and the UK.
  • Marriage equality for same-sex couples is only available in 22 countries.
  • 18 is the number of countries without any legal protection of same-sex partnerships.
  • Trans parenthood is fully recognised only in 8 countries.
  • Only Germany, Greece, Iceland, Malta, Portugal and Spain prohibit unnecessary surgical or medical interventions on intersex children.
  • 11 countries still don’t have any legal or administrative procedure for legal gender recognition.
  • In addition, Bulgaria, Hungary and Russia have laws that make legal gender recognition completely impossible.
  • Only in 12 countries, trans people can have legal gender recognition based on self-determination.
  • Freedom of assembly and association for LGBTI communities are restricted or under attack in at least 14 countries.
  • Sexual orientation and gender identity are qualification criteria for seeking asylum in 27 countries. Intersex asylum seekers are protected in the law only in 6 countries.

Theresa Garnett (1888 - 1966)

Thu May 17, 1888

Image

Theresa Garnett, born on this day in 1888, was a militant British suffragette whose acts of feminist rebellion included assaulting Winston Churchill with a whip, shouting "Take that in the name of the insulted women of England!"

Garnett was born in Leeds on May 17th, 1888. In 1907, she joined the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) after being inspired by a speech given by the feminist and later co-founder of the Australian Communist Party Adela Pankhurst.

The WSPU fought for women's suffrage in the United Kingdom and was noted for its use of direct action. Its members heckled politicians, held demonstrations and marches, broke the law to force arrests, broke windows in prominent buildings, set fire to post boxes, committed night-time arson of unoccupied houses and churches, and, when imprisoned, went on hunger strike and endured physically traumatizing force-feeding.

Garnett participated in several of these actions as a young adult, chaining herself in 1909, along with four other activists, to a statue in Parliament in protest of a law meant to prohibit disorderly conduct while Parliament was in session.

On November 14th, 1909, Garnett assaulted Winston Churchill, who instituted policies of force feeding suffragettes in prison, with a whip, striking him several times while shouting "Take that in the name of the insulted women of England!"

We often find it hard to allow ourselves good things, or think we're not worthy of them. But we do deserve them!

Instead of thinking of reasons we don't deserve things, lets think differently. Why do you deserve good things?
