A pain to dial in. Especially in this case, without barrel adjusters, but a neat little alternative to a headset hanger or the other fork mount hanger you see all the time.

Went bikepacking for my birthday about a month ago and it seems to combine some of the recent posts. First “real” tour and I’ve since gotten a new seat so I don’t have the ugly plastic bag as a seat. Super fun bike, surprisingly capable, I think it’ll stay in the quiver for a while!

I'm cross posting my post here because I think it may be "x-bike" ish. I've been lurking this community for a long time but haven't really had a great option to post here.

Exploring on the bike is one of my favourite feelings. Seeing what’s behind a bend, up that hill, beyond that forest… it’s a never ending adventure.

Anyway, rode a path I’ve ridden dozen of times and decided to finally follow a really nasty (as in overgrown) path I’ve never been down before. Literally down, as it as steep decent over loose gravel.

Man was it worth it. The path follows one of the local rivers and is actually a very decent and clean place to ride.

Can’t wait to explore even further.

Made a start to my first steel frame build. Going to get a rear tab welded on for disc braking.

Am I right to be annoyed that I have two broken spokes after having a reputable shop fix 1 broken spoke a few days ago?

I'm out doing a tour, tomorrow is the last big day - 45ish miles. The rear end felt a little squidgey coming out of the woods this evening. I figured I was low on air but No! Two new broke spokes (rear wheel, drive side, broke off in the J bend, holes are right next to each other).

I got to practice using a fiber fix - and truth be told we aren't really doing anything rough, so I imagine things will be fine. But... Dang, I wish the shop would have told me the tension was off and I was going to break more - I would have brought another fiber fix!

Btw: fiber fix is a neat little hack. But a PITA to install on the drive side. What finally worked for me was: make a 'clean' end by cutting the end I messed up trying the first time. Then, reenforcing the end with super glue and some tape (so the end would hold together while forcing it through the hub hole). A bright light and a tiny Leatherman squirt were required.

I'm really glad to see others have moved to lemmy. Xbiking was one of the communities I thought I'd miss the most. Cheers!

My former commuter has now become a sunset tradition. Love the sunset on the sound and it’s such a great bike for around town

Picked up this Gary Fisher Advance for $20. Came with Alivio/STX. The only things salvageable were the frame/fork, front wheel, seat post, bars, and derailleurs. The elastomers in the fork were surprisingly ok. All I needed to get was a bottom bracket, and Microshift Mezzo shifters for $30 total. I used parts bin stuff for the rest. Shimano Exage wheelset, and Exage derailleurs. Suntour crankset with Bionic chainrings, and no name V-brakes.

My local shop participated in the Swift Summer Solstice Campout and I opted to tag along. We were joined by truemarmalade.com, who took a lot of great photos of the trip, including this shot of me as I parted ways with the main group.

Spring time again (self.xbiking)

I got my bike out this week and gave it some love. It started out with cob webs, but a little fresh oil on the chain, a little air in the tubes, and it's running great. Took it on a 26 mile bike ride with a close friend on some scenic roads through a nature reserve, and it was nice. I'm so far out of shape though, it's time to get back on the bike more often. My cheeks were feeling it for a couple days. It's time to get biking! I'll share some pic of the old steel tubed thing tomorrow.

My round-town commuter passed down from my dad who was the original owner. Tires, bar tape, and seat have been updated but everything else is original, even the plastic Simplex derailleur... 😬
