Episode is Season 3, Episode 1 "To Mend and Defend". This recording is from a VHS tape from 2002.

How did you digitise your tapes?

I'm not OP, but I've had good luck with a high quality VHS deck and an elgato video capture.

I want to invest in a Domesday Duplicator this year, which should provide an even better quality.

Honest question here, how does the DD help with VHS tapes? I was under the impression that it samples analog data directly from the read head of a Laserdisc player. Can it be adapted to sample from a magnetic read head for VHS tapes as well?

Perfect, that's all I need. Thank you.

I was tempted by the elgato but I watched a video that showed it was poor quality.

Perhaps a VHS to DVD recorder is the way to go

I've been perfectly satisfied using the S-Video on the elgato. If you use composite, not so great.

Are you confined to using their software or can you use other software if such a thing exists?

[-] wesker 1 points 4 months ago

Unfortunately with the "video capture" model specifically, it sounds like you're limited to using their Windows or Mac software only.

This is the video in question, which seems to indicate the elgato software is to blame for the poor quality.

[-] fox2263@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

That’s the one! Although I don’t think they used S-Video so perhaps that’s better. But like you say, the software was to blame with no change of bitrate etc

It wasn't me. Someone from youtube.
