An added mode to Essence Scatter but for a tougher cost? Is that worth it? Essence Scatter is already meh in limited.

Really? I think essence scatter in limited formats has been getting better and better as creatures go up in power. We just saw essence capture be pretty good in OTJ, even if Blue itself wasn't.

And having the option to counter a game redefining non-creature spell is good.

It is a very hard commitment to Blue though.
