Yeah, no. Many affected systems are bitlocker secured. And many users don't have access to the bitlocker key. Good luck

Do the computers always bsod right away, or can they boot long enough to try getting their recovery keys?

From my understanding, yes. As soon as the kernel driver is loaded you are fucked

I had a customer getting the bsod on boot. Happened about 2 seconds after the windows login screen showed up so no time for anything.
