Mine is Abandoned Deck because I like playing with numbered cards and feel like face cards get hosed too often

Not sure how it works. Does it just average out your chips and mult scores?

It "balances" your score so that chips and mult will be equal. If you have 40 chips and 10 mult, add them together and divide by two. Now you have 25 chips and 25 mult.

Since chips are easier to get than mults, you get more mult than usual? Is it the idea?

Yeah, it lets you prioritize chips and ignore mult cards
