lol, that was harder than I remember. I think you typically had a shotgun by then.
Tip: You can cheese this by walking a step, stay where you are, and shoot the monsters as they come to you.
Also, for a bigger cheese tactic, open the web console and run:

edit: It does! I think it disables your kill count if you iddqd though. Or it's just buggy.
