It got me thinking, in theory can the president pardon the whole country for a day? Could the president literally order the purge?
with follow up tweet: This was my thinking. It would be purge but everyone would have to travel across state lines. So Hawaii and Alaska would be SOL
Taking the joke seriously: President can only pardon for federal crimes. Most states have laws against murder, I'm pretty sure.
But if you leave your state with intention to commit crime, is not the whole thing federal, not just crossing state line part?
I would think it would make you eligible for both state charges and federal charges. idk though.
