When I still drank I made a rule for myself that I could only have one beer between bands and then could drink as much as I wanted after the show to avoid getting stupid drunk and having to leave before the band I actually came to see went on lol
It generally worked unless all of the opening bands were just terrible
Quitting drinking altogether ultimately became the best option for everyone involved in my particular case
