If it's a paid online backup, I'm ok with that. If they want to take my local backup away... Well that's another story
They can't take it away, because, even if they remove the feature, other people can fork Signal, and bring it back.

It's just a paid online backup, although nothing else (like whether it'll leave a free tier) is really confirmed now.
