I didn't know what these were until a couple days ago, I saw them posted elsewhere and did a little digging. There must have been some release on Sunday because I went to the mall to meet up with some people before heading elsewhere, and there was an absolutely apocalyptic line with hundreds and hundreds of feet of little rope barriers, armed security guards, people brought chairs to sit in line since god knows when... all in front of a tiny little shop that sells things that all just look like funko-pops to me but are apparently unique and desirable for whatever reason... There were even more people all over the mall with bags from that shop carrying the weird little fuzzy things around.

Fuckin TikTok trends. The cycle of "check out this cool thing" to "omg we must all buy this thing, I will literally murder you if you get between me and this thing" to "no-one cares about that thing any more" has reached an absurd pace now.

It's just like beanie babies but that whole cycle took years to mature, now it takes weeks. I remember being stopped by a teenager, while I was driving past, to ask if I had any Prime, now they can't give that vile shit away.

You're just describing fashion.

Labubu released 2015.

Yeah, but no one gave a shit until about a month ago now people are literally fighting in the street over them and in another month no one will care again.

I'm fairly sure they started being hyped at least in January, when the Labubu subreddit (created last September) first showed up in the internet archive, where it also had quite a bit of activity. Thus I also heavily doubt it'll fade in a month.
