If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

From A Place Called Hope

This sweet baby Eastern Screech Owl was delivered to the Torrington PD after being dropped by a hawk. The baby's origin is unknown, but he is safe and has no real injuries!! So lucky and so cute.

Just a reminder to always make note of the location you pick up injured wildlife for the ultimate goal of return. It's not always possible, like in this scenario, but when it is, it helps us to do the best for recovered patients.

I had been imagining it asking its captor too many questions to the point it decided to drop it off where someone would find it rather than listen to its childish questions any longer. 😁

"Where are we going?"

"How far is that?"

"Why do you live there?"

"How come you're so big?"

"Why are you so funny looking?"

And so on...

The eternal why. All kids have that phase. Even animal kids.

I still want to know why. That's why I always hung around the books and now the computers all the time! Plus they can't yell at me to shut the heck up. I frankly think they like the attention. 😀

I love how we can just search up anything now. Still have to dodge the sketchy sourced ones but truly all of human knowledge at our fingertips so we can answer all our burning questions at any time of the day is amazing.

Exactly. It can be a double-edged sword, but it's still one of our greatest achievements as people.
