As someone who has only read starship troopers, what next novel would you recommend?
My favorite to recommend is Methuselah's Children. Introduction to Lazarus Long and the Future History -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_History_(Heinlein) and a great intro to the rest of his books. You can also start with any of the Juveniles, of which Citizen of the Galaxy is my favorite followed by Orphans of the Sky.
