Debian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. Debian provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over 59000 packages, precompiled software bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine.

"i386 is no longer supported as a regular architecture: there is no official kernel and no Debian installer for i386 systems. The i386 architecture is now only intended to be used on a 64-bit (amd64) CPU."

Question. Does that mean steam won't be usable anymore?

Steam is still usable. They're just saying that running 32 bit packages on 32 bit hardware doesn't get full support anymore.

32 bit packages are still supported on 64 bit hardware, such as for Steam.
