Alternatively, if your current phone doesn't have a headphone jack, do you wish it did?

It is. When there's silence, earphones enter power saving mode. Then when audio starts playing it's ever so slightly late cutting out a bit of audio at start. For example, app MorseMania has setting for creating background noise to keep Bluetooth earphones alive.
