The other night, I realized I haven't seen that many films that came out before 1960. I've seen some classics like Citizen Kane and The Bicycle Thief and work by filmmakers like Kurosawa, Fellini, etc. but I don't know very much about film from the first half of the 20th century. What are some of your favorite pre-1960 films? Any genre will do and recommendations for films in any language are also welcome.
