Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.
Post guidelines
Title format
Post title should mirror the news source title.
URL format
Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefix
Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title.
Country prefix
Country prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) where title is not clear enough from which country the news is coming from.
Rules
1. English only
Title and associated content has to be in English.
2. No social media posts
Avoid all social media posts. Try searching for a source that has a written article or transcription on the subject.
3. Respectful communication
All communication has to be respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.
4. Inclusivity
Everyone is welcome here regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, color, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
5. Ad hominem attacks
Any kind of personal attacks are expressly forbidden. If you can't argue your position without attacking a person's character, you already lost the argument.
6. Off-topic tangents
Stay on topic. Keep it relevant.
7. Instance rules may apply
If something is not covered by community rules, but are against lemmy.zip instance rules, they will be enforced.

Don't forget to remove Edge with a third party tool or a registry hack, disable the search and news fields in the taskbar (again), also you should probably check if all telemetry settings were switched back on with the last update, by the way why haven't you subscribed to M365 yet, that's why we forced you to create an account after all? and please fill out this survey before we let you log in without giving us your phone number.
Or I could just ignore the things I don't use. You guys blow this way out of proportion. Don't get me wrong, I love the simplicity and barebonesness of Linux OSs, I have a desktop install and run a home server using it too. But does the presence of edge or news affect me? No.
Edge affects me cause with every typo in the desktop search, Edge opens and then springs like 5 popups and notifications on me that don't have close buttons.
And the news widget pops up whenever I happen to touch it with the cursor.
Things like this aren't a problem by themselves but if you use the OS a lot, they all add up to a really annoying UX.
And I'm reminded every day that Microsoft controls what happens on my PC, not me.
I worry about the telemetry and customizing my OS to exactly the way I want.
Things like swapping Ctrl and Alt without needing to spring extreme protocols or run software that is a security risk. It's just a couple of toggles on Linux.
But it's a "to each their own" kinda stuff 😅 After work I can't look at Windows anymore.
