The second person here would be the user. Each user would have to write their own app. That sounds like a recipe for-... fun. Lots of fun.
I used the api key thing and patched sync with revanced.
Kind of second party right. I used a tool and an app that no longer work to make a usable 3rd party app
That's pretty much what the fediverse is, people host their own "subreddits" called instances on their own hardware. I think it's pretty neat.
