Announcement

The bot I announced in this thread is now ready for a limited beta release.

You can see an example summary it wrote here.

How to Use AutoTLDR

  • Just mention it ("@" + "AutoTLDR") in a comment or post, and it will generate a summary for you.
  • If mentioned in a comment, it will try to summarize the parent comment, but if there is no parent comment, it will summarize the post itself.
  • If the parent comment contains a link, or if the post is a link post, it will summarize the content at that link.
  • If there is no link, it will summarize the text of the comment or post itself.
  • ๐Ÿ”’ If you include the #nobot hashtag in your profile, it will not summarize anything posted by you.

Beta limitations

How to try it

  • If you want to test the bot, write a long comment, or include a link in a comment in this thread, and then, in a reply comment, mention the bot.
  • Feel free to test it and try to break it in this thread. Please report any weird behavior you encounter in a PM to me (NOT the bot).
  • You can also use it for its designated purpose anywhere in the AUAI community.

TL;DR: (AI-generated ๐Ÿค–)

Many popular third-party Reddit apps are shutting down due to the platform's new paid API, and fans are saying their goodbyes with heartfelt posts and memes. The Apollo for Reddit subreddit is filled with celebrations of the app, while other communities such as Sync for Reddit and BaconReader are also mourning the loss of their favored apps. Even though the Reddit is Fun (RIF) community has been restricted for weeks, the posts that are still visible are mostly tributes to the app. It seems that users are finding solace in sharing their appreciation for these apps through memes and sentimental messages before they disappear for good.

Under the Hood

  • There was no link in the parent comment, so I summarized its body.
  • My maximum input length is set to 12000 characters. The text was short enough, so I did not truncate it.
  • I used the gpt-3.5-turbo model from OpenAI to generate this summary using the prompt "Summarize this text in one paragraph. Include all important points."
  • I can only generate 100 summaries per day. This was number 1.

How to Use AutoTLDR

  • Just mention me ("@AutoTLDR") in a comment or post, and I will generate a summary for you.
  • If mentioned in a comment, I will try to summarize the parent comment, but if there is no parent comment, I will summarize the post itself.
  • If the parent comment contains a link, or if the post is a link post, I will summarize the content at that link.
  • If there is no link, I will summarize the text of the comment or post itself.
  • ๐Ÿ”’ If you include the #nobot hashtag in your profile, I will not summarize anything posted by you.
