I didn't see a source in the article, but maybe the difference is between individual income vs household income, given the exact verbiage of "median income for a Coloradan."

Though if that was the case, I'd expect the value to be lower.

Edit: With some googling, it looks like the source might be a single income earner as noted by the Justice Department

If that’s a single earner then it’s even worse to compare to the median single family home. The median single family home in Colorado is like 2500 sqft and 4 bedroom. Virtually 0 single buyers are even looking for something like that.
