So far there hasn't been an explanation of why the tunnel was dug. It would be excellent if it turns out that they dug it just to troll Richard Strocher.
My money is currently on they were overwhelmed by the collective masculine urge to dig a tunnel.
Honestly, if it turns out that's what it was I shall be happy with that.
One guy started digging a hole and a bunch of bros just showed up to see what he was working on and joined in.
