Swap parties. Just go independent and caucus with the Democrats. A stronger way to finish out his final term and make his point.

He won't, though, because he still fundamentally believes in conservatism, aka refusing to allow any kind of progress and maintaining old, cruel, pointless social hierarchies at all costs.

Even when seeing the inevitable finish line for his entire philosophy -- authoritarianism and the kakistocracy that comes with it -- he still believes in it.

That is to say if he weren't a dribbling moron, he never would've been a Republican in the first place.

You attribute too much malice to stupidity.

Just because someone doesn't hold your same values doesn't mean their an idiot. It just means they don't care about what you care about, and don't share your moral/ethical values.

Sometimes that means they're a shitbag. That doesn't mean they're an idiot.

That requires some pretty serious narcissism/high opinions of your own intellect, as well as a strange faith in people who are deliberately doing evil things.
