Voyager, aka ‘wefwef.app’, just hit 1.0

This is a project that makes me really interested in what I can do with a PWA.

(It’s an Apollo-esque (an iOS app for Reddit) progressive web app for Lemmy, and it kicks ass so far.)

I'm using it right now and, after trying 4 different apps, it's my favorite Lemmy app so far

I bounce between Memmy (also Apollo-esque) and Voyager. I think Voyager is better, but there is something about a native app experience that isn’t 100% mimicked by a PWA. It’s hard to put my finger on exactly what it is. Don’t get me wrong, for me Voyager’s PWA is 99.9% there, but I can “feel” the difference.

Having said that, as an engineer, I appreciate and respect the PWA’s portability trade off. I can have the same Lemmy browsing experience on any computing device using Voyager. And it’s a really good experience. I don’t miss Apollo or Reddit anymore!

Well the good news is that Voyager will be hitting the App Store soon as a native app!

Source on that? I'd love to follow that!

It's out on Testflight which is where beta software is released on iOS. The App Store version and the Android PlayStore version will be out soon (already submitted). Source:
