Only 20 years late, but I’m finally watching The Wire. I was worried it had been over-hyped and my expectations were too high going in. Nope. Halfway through season 4 and loving it

I remember watching it multiple times on DVD. I saw it again when they did the wide-screen remaster, and was a little underwhelmed. It might have been because I was watching using Now TV in the UK, which is the absolute worst way to watch anything, but I thought the wide-screen version unintentionally changed the framing of some scenes. For example: if you show two characters sitting together in 4:3, it doesn't convey much; if you now show the space either side of them that there now is, it communicates that they are sitting closer together as a choice, implying an intimacy that was never there.

I watched it earlier this year and was blown away. So many great characters and storylines. The way they portrayed various systemic problems in society without losing touch with the characters was truly masterful.

Once you finish, there's some interesting analyses and discussions you can find about the show. IIRC, they enlisted a number of urban crime authors to keep the show accurate on certain details.

I've been watching Suits based on some recommendations from friends. First season was pretty good. I just started the second. Sometimes it feels a little too crazy but I've been enjoying it so far.

I was surprised how much I like it. Although it can be a bit hand wavy at times, there's something entertaining about a smartass making people with bad intentions look stupid.

Justified: City Primeval

It's an adaption of the Elmore Lenard book, with Raylan Givens crowbarred in. I like Olyphant's wonky walk, and Boyd Holbrook is making a great villain. Olyphant's real-life daughter is maybe a case for the prosecution against nepo-babies, but it doesn't bother me.

Full Circle

Olyphant is also in this, weirdly. It's kinda crazy and hard to follow at times, but worth it to revel in Steven Soderberg's abilities behind the camera.

@Hurts@lemmy.world or @rezz@lemmy.world, can we make this a reoccurring thread on Sundays? It was honestly the best part of the television subreddit

[-] rezz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Sounds good to me! If @Hurts@lemmy.world has a bot for it, otherwise I'll do it myself.

[-] Hurts@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The bot should handle it. It's scheduled to post a weekly thread every Sunday at 12AM EST, this Sunday would be the first if it works

[-] unce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

hellyeah I've been posting them the last few weeks, a bit late on this one

[-] Hurts@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Just getting back to you, one of the mods from another community I mod, c/news is setting up the newsautomod bot to get it going.

[-] Hurts@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yes, I'll try to get one of the bots from my other communities set up here

Started watching Imposters (2017) and while the writing can be up and down, it's a fun watch and will make you chuckle at times. Also finished the mini docu series: Stolen Youth (tough watch).

Continuing to watch Alone S10, Joe Pickett S02 and Fullmetal Brotherhood.
