Hi! I'm in Germany, but a few years ago I joined sdf.org because I had the feeling sdf-eu was a bit abandoned. I don't remember if I created an account or not. Now that I see - through this lemmy instance - that there are people here, I wanted to take another look.

When I ssh to new@sdf-eu.org I get a prompt for a password instead of the mkacct flow. Is that known/expected? Is this the right channel to ask?

I think you need to use the website first to register an account.

I will! But the "join" section of the site is mentioning a different procedure, FYI, copied from sdf.org I assume.
