Probably because the 'new' old people weren't exposed to lead. The generations prior had to deal with lead paint and leaded gasoline vehicle emissions among other things.

Less accumulation of brain damage in general.

I mean. I don't see the opposite as a good thing. I would eveyones brain function to improve as much as possible as soon as possible.
