So much for CNN being "liberal media"!

Is this one surprising to people?

[-] Zipitydew@sh.itjust.works 38 points 1 week ago

It is unfortunately. I've been trying to spread the word that CNN was bought by Trump supporters back in 2022. Still surprises quite a few people.

Bought out a few years ago

Nope saw this one coming a km away.

The Biden team apparently

Isn't this chart reporting how people who watch CNN donated?

[-] modifier@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago

Look at that community you're in.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Can you explain how that answers my question?

[-] modifier@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

By looking at the community description you would see that this community is dedicated to an app which tracks the political spending of corporations or celebrities. Since the post is a screenshot of that app, and that app is dedicated to tracking the spending of corporations and celebrities, your original question would be fully answered and accompanied by an enriched appreciation for the diversity of communities on Lemmy.

Make sense?

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Ah, I can't see the community description on the app. I thought that the site tracked the political contributions of the companies, but someone a couple days ago said that it's actually tracking the political contributions of their customers. That seems like a much harder thing to track, and counterintuitive, but now I'm not sure which is accurate.

[-] modifier@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

Don't believe what that person said, and don't believe what I said. This is easily resolved by just looking up the app in question in the app store or online and reading their own description of their app.

This is one of the more odd conversations I've had on here in a while.

Okay, thanks

[-] Ixoid@lemm.ee 26 points 1 week ago

Doesn't making political donations destroy any shred of impartiality the media once had?

[-] Beaver@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

You talking about cnn not all media

[-] Ixoid@lemm.ee 5 points 1 week ago

Not American, so I don't really know the biases involved. But it seems super sketchy to me.

[-] Beaver@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

CNN and The Observer are sources that should be avoided.

[-] andrewth09@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

A well funded Republican party is good for business! Keeps that outrage flowing.

[-] Xanderill@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I dont understand. Im trying to find details/evidence for this elsewhere online with no results. Could it be mistaken? It seems almost impossible

Edit: Well, well, well. It seems like they find workarounds to get money to political CNN commenters.

It wasn't my intention to post half truths.

It's publicly traded, as it is part of Warner Bothers discovery, which is owned by AT&T.

Edit: I don't think you can donate to them at all. They have to release their political donations though, and on a first look they seem pretty eager to donate the same amount to Democrats and republicans at all times. There's third party reports that give them a bad rating because apparently quite a few donations went to Jan 6 supporters and the likes.

The donations TWD makes are tiny

[-] Xanderill@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Thanks for the explanation. More complicated than I realized

[-] vxx@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

I fact checked myself today and it gets even more complicated.

Apparently billionaires find loopholes
