I recently got my framework 16 and took off my trackpad to inspect what could be causing it to stick up and saw this. Compared to the other side, the plastic here doesn't look straight and plastic is deformed by the metal. Is this something fixable or would I need to buy a new midplate?

My trackpad sticks up too, and my side inserts don’t always sit evenly with it. It’s kind of sad that the tolerances aren’t better.

That should be covered under warranty. If not, you could take the rivet out, straighten that plastic bit and glue it to the metal using super glue. It should hold well. Of course take all the electronics out of the way if you do this. As in remove them.

@eyecreate looks to have slipped off the pin on right. Does it not push up back over it?

I can try again, but it wasn't an easy push and I didn't want to break it.

Instead of pushing the bulk of the plastic, try putting a precision flathead screw driver in between the plastic and the rivet. Gradually work the screwdriver around the rivet toward the top of the picture. Keeping the end of the driver under the lip of the rivet, gently tilt the driver to push the plastic down into the gap.

maybe there's adhesive under the magnets

@eyecreate hmm. Asked official Framework forum?

Yeah, that's what I should do.
