I always knew they had it in them, I just thought they'd ease into it a little

WTF is Gitcoin, is it some unholy combination of open sores and crapto

[-] dgerard@awful.systems 11 points 1 year ago

someone said "imagine if you could fund open source development through crypto" and they thought "let's spam devs on github"

[-] self@awful.systems 9 points 1 year ago

is this the same one that pockets the donation if the devs you’re trying to give to don’t sign up for it?

what does your heart tell you

[-] fasterandworse@awful.systems 6 points 1 year ago

It is actually exactly that

Through the magic of self-funded blockchain crowd combobulator (famously very low on greenhouse emissions) yet vitally out-funded through the commitment of big oil money (also famously very low on greenhouse emissions), any regulation or actual government action to address climate change is unneeded!

Truly a pair, paragons of ~~sustainable~~ web3/libertarian virtue!

The abstract concept of rolling coal announces partnership with Thomas Midgley Jr. to promote environmentally sustainable transportation.

to accelerate open-source innovation in the energy sector

Translation: "Please someone invent some magic gizmo to undo global warming. We might even throw many monies at you. Just come up with any solution to the climate crisis that doesn't involve burning less oil."

edit: found the worst reply so far

Also ethereum core dev subtweeting about dirty money and poor people https://nitter.net/LefterisJP/status/1691134689333989384

any chance either of you did an archive of those? ~~seems both suicided their tweets~~ disregard, my internet here tonight is awful

[-] fasterandworse@awful.systems 4 points 1 year ago

Damn! I remember thinking about it but went with a nitter link instead because I was out and about.

[-] froztbyte@awful.systems 4 points 1 year ago

false alarm this time but probably a good idea overall - presumable felon tusk is going to start doing his best to kill nitter-type stuff some or other time

relatedly: my heart yearns for the web of the late 00s to early 10s where you could write your own automatons that just did things

2010~2014: "post this link for me and also make an archive of it and remind me to check up on it in 2 hours"? sure thing, here's a yahoo pipes workflow

2015+: you want to...use the "data"....? in...... something else? I don't understand. where do the ads go?

They didn’t really backpedal. They are still taking the money but:

We know that for some of you, running rounds where Shell is involved is not really the problem…but giving them a stage to amplify their voice is.

Wtf stage do they think they are giving to SHELL?

it's hard to think of a more apt pairing really

[-] fasterandworse@awful.systems 5 points 1 year ago

They were already greasy, now they are in with the oil.

[-] 4shtonButcher@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago
