DS9 did it great. So did First Contact. But action for action's sake sucked (I'm looking at you, NuTrek). We don't need to Michael Bayify Star Trek.

Honestly, the worst thing about these battles is the trend of coming out of warp/hyperspace/wtf you want to call it in the middle of the battle. Like, are you telling me you can detect something light-years away and have near FTL communication, but you can't detect a massive battle happening. It's so infuriating.
