He looked silly squatting, and the dog is laughing like a person. That's the entire joke.

Ah, I had missed that Shermy is holding his "paws" up in the third panel. I get it now, though I would not rate this comic among Schulz's best.

Different than the ones I've been posting or different than the ones you probably remember? These look different than the later ones just because there's 50 years of evolution in Schulz's drawing style

yeah I guess I only knew his work from the 70s on. good to see a cartoonist evolve over time.
