it was at this scene when i realized it was tom cruise, whom i actually cant stand. i had to give him some respect for his acting on this one, fanfuckingtastick

[-] AngryHumanoid@reddthat.com 43 points 11 months ago

I honestly hate him as a person but it's impossible to deny his skill as an actor. "Edge of Tomorrow" is easily one of the best sci fi movies in history.

[-] Pea666@feddit.nl 18 points 11 months ago

Tom Cruise is a massive piece of shit and I refuse to pay for his work on principle but Les Grossman was a great character.

[-] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 23 points 11 months ago

Hollywood is filled with super talented pieces of shit. I can't really watch any movie or show if I bring morality into it, since so many celebrities are people I would avoid

[-] iAmTheTot@kbin.social 12 points 11 months ago

Not even the celebrities. Producers, execs, etc...

[-] cmbabul@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

There are plenty of shithead actors, writers, and directors for sure. But I’m certain that the worst people in the industry by far are producers and execs

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 0 points 11 months ago

I want to know more. What did he do?

[-] Pea666@feddit.nl 6 points 11 months ago

He’s a big shot within Scientology. A cult which is linked to structural physical and mental abuse as well as blackmailing, stalking and suspicious disappearance of (former) members.

He’s not just a member though, he’s supposedly just below the current head honcho.

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah I knew that actually. Thought it was something more. But maybe it's bad enough, I don't know much about it.

[-] Pea666@feddit.nl 1 points 11 months ago

It’s enough for me and it’s up to everyone to decide for themselves wether or not they can separate the art from the artist.

With Tom Cruise, it’s ongoing. It’d be different if it were some thing he was involved with in the past that he had now distanced himself from for example.

He was also incredibly good in Magnolia, playing kind of the same sort of character

[-] MrPoopyButthole@lemm.ee 18 points 11 months ago

Yes, no contest.

I fucking hate Tom Cruise, he's a suppressive person. WHERE'S SHELLY!?!?

I would never watch a movie with him in it, but getting him to do a role as an ugly Hollywood scumbag that thinks he's god is amazing.

I'd also normally never watch a movie with blackface, but Tropic Thunder managed to use the worst of Hollywood to effectively shit on all of it and it will always be perfect for that.

[-] CoderKat@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I somehow never even realized that was Tom Cruise until today...

[-] madscience@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

It's definitely one of the best

[-] BrainisfineIthink@lemmy.one 7 points 11 months ago

Okay I want you to take a step back and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE

[-] thessnake03@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Find out who that was

[-] ricecooker@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

You should check out the end credits for "Ferris Buellers Day Off" and then the closing credits for "Deadpool." 😆😆

Fun fact, Cruise was the one who came up with the character. He wasn't in the original script!

[-] Liv2themax@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Arguably the best part of that whole film.

[-] iAmTheTot@kbin.social 9 points 11 months ago

I dunno, that whole movie is hilarious start to end.

[-] lespea@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

The Hangover for me

[-] livus@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago

Fight Club, Silence of the Lambs, and Beau Travail for me, but this one is definitely good.
