to anyone here who is active duty military:

you took an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the USA. It's time to start protecting and defending the constitution.

I don't think "serve"is the right verb to use here.

Buy a gun.

Join or form a militia.

Conservatives don't, and never did, give a flying fuck about the Constitution.

The rest of us are going to have to.

When has the constitution ever stopped him before?

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

perhaps we should give the other constitution a crack at it.

If Trump can beat the USS Constitution in a 1v1 then he can run for a 3rd term. This goes for all future, unaugmented two-term Presidents.

I understand one tactic is for him to serve as VP under someone else who promises to resign to allow Trump to serve again but he keeps saying there's also other options.

WHAT OTHER OPTIONS IS HE TALKING ABOUT?

one tactic is for him to serve as VP under someone else who promises to resign to allow Trump to serve again

According to the 12th amendment, "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

This seems pretty plain to me: if you can't serve as president, you also can't serve as vice president. Of course, this has never been tested in court...

Just not holding elections due to some sort of national emergency is a tried and true method.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 days ago

No, he'll just issue an executive order that gets rid of term limits. Who's going to remove him?

[–] 52fighters 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

We held elections in the middle of the Civil War and made sure soldiers could vote. If Lincoln could do it then, we can do it now. I'll fight to make sure we have elections, and I hope others do the same.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 4 points 5 days ago

Yeah, but Lincoln wanted elections. It's different if the President doesn't want them.

The supreme court has already ruled that the 14th amendment isn't self executing and congress is required to disqualify someone from being president.

The legal argument holds for any decision about presidential eligibility. So Trump can just stand and see if congress are brave enough to disqualify him in an open vote.

He's making a lot of noise about Zelensky not going to the polls. So ...

War, he's talking about taking America to war so strongly they can't have an election.

Trump is inelagable to be president after their second term, the line of succession would jump to Johnson.

Never been tested in court tho so I'm sure it'd get by. But at that point why even care about the rules?

[–] AJ1@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

inelagable

that's a new one lol

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

ineligible I think.

I was high and couldn't for the life of me spell it

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

been there, my guy. i was playing stardew valley while high and ordered spaghetti from Gus, only to find out that i wouldn't actually get spaghetti in real life. it was a sad moment.

[–] ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Trump could claim that his term as 45th and his term as 47th are recognized as separate offices of President. Thus, he would get one extra term as 47th's second term.

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

Thus opening the door for some sort of Clinton-Bush type of future scenario where a Democrat and Republican are buddies behind the scenes and just keep running for one term and alternating for 20-odd years.
