People only really change when it hurts so much they are forced to. It needs to get much worse to reach that breakpoint and critical mass. (Some reach it sooner than others ) But when it does, we need to be ready with the most logical and attractive solution to avoid them choosing fascism or other extremes. Left ideology needs better marketing, why not sell that utopian vision we hope to achieve.

It's not much but the company I work for just announced our factory it's carbon neutral without purchasing offsets. Rather than announce a date in the future we just went ahead and did it.
We need to have optimism, not just because it's healthier, but because it combats the inaction that comes from nihilism. Doomerism leads to inaction, revolutionary optimism takes the path of positive action. With that being said...

The path to beat Capitalism is not through supporting non-profits. The accumulatory and expansionary nature of Capital necessitates its growth, we don't fight this by supporting alternatives, but by seizing the large firms via smashing the old state and replacing it with a Socialist one.
-
Capitalism in decay will protect itself, however ugly it needs to get. Sometimes it even puts on a mask and calls itself fascism if the circumstances require extra brutal means. The silver lining is that fixing it is the same as in the first section, revolution and instituting Socialism.
-
Some countries are doing more than others. China, for example, has invested huge sums into solar panel production and development, and has dramatically shiftef towards renewables and combatting desertification. Capitalist countries will typically lag behind Socialist countries like the PRC when it comes to addressing issues that don't have profit as the top priority.
-
Non-profits will tend to lag behind for-profits under Capitalism as the for-profits have far more resources and support from Capitalist states to makw a better environment for them.
-
I don't think this is true. There are Socialist coumtries that, while certainly imperfect, do place a priority on addressing these. Even within Capitalist states, there are working class organizations and parties trying to build that better future. Nihilism clouds your sight and judgement, it obfuscates the shining rays of hope we have.
Overall, I find reading Leftist theory helps me better understand the problems with the world, and what we all need to do to fix it. This keeps me grounded and hopeful. The road is nearly easy nor impossible, but hard. I have an introductory Marxist-Leninist reading list you can check out if you want to.
Yes. Because all my life, we've been frogs in a steadily warming pot, and the heat has been cranked up to max
People are angry. People are protesting, doing vandalism with a prison sentence longer then murder, people are raging at their futures being cut off
Everything creates a reaction. The worse is gets, the faster it gets worse, the larger the reaction.
The best future is the one where people get so angry we stop. That's all it takes to kill the game - if enough people, even for a short time, stop playing - it all stops
The world is robust. Humans are robust. If we stopped killing both, everything could recover shockingly fast
Things will get worse, things are very bad already, but it's not over. I feel lighter every time the stock market drops, because it's imaginary but the hurt is real.
The more and faster the hurt, the more people will wake the fuck up and stop this
Your lack of hope/resignation is a tool against you (and against all of us).
As much as I agree with this sentiment, it somehow adds to the despair. At least for me, sometimes makes me wanna quit even more - as in what even is the point and bla bla
There's always hope. The feeling you are experiencing is what the people who are causing all of that want you to feel.
Now if everything seems bleak and hopeless all the time, that's also a strong indicator of depression, and may also be worth talking to a professional about. Or if not a professional, at least people in your life whose perspectives matter more than random internet strangers like me.
- No one is taking any serious steps to stop climate change.
- On a relative scale, no one is fighting to change any of this.
Do you mean "no one" in the sense of no politician or rich person? Because if so, then indeed, no one in the ruling class is doing anything about anything; but if you are talking about anyone, that there is not a single person on the face of the earth who is doing something, then I profoundly disagree.
If you are looking for hope in a savior, a messiah who will appear out of nowhere and bring about change on their own, obviously all you will find is disappointment and hopelessness. Hope lies in the people and in popular organization, it lies in joining together with your neighbors, friends and/or family to bring about the change you want to see. Hope lies in supporting those who are already fighting, either by donating to their cause or spreading their message. Hope lies in mutual support and resilience.
Hope is the last thing to be lost because it is the last thing standing fighting, with bloody knuckles, a black eye and a couple of missing teeth, but still smiling in the face of adversity.
This is not a rebuttal, I agree with everything you are saying, and i'd like to make a point.
Some would say these events are caused by their savior/Messiah. I think that adds to the hope that an alternative singular person would step up to "save" everyone.
There is hope. There is no hope for the empire, which is doomed, and therefore there is no hope for non-profits as such because they only exist as part of the tax structure of the empire. As the empire collapses, so will non-profits. But also so will for-profits. It's all collapsing as it fails to sustain itself.
In fact, the empire dying is the exact shape of what hope looks like.
There is a lot to be said about economics and capitalism. I am in no way excusing the greed based nonsense we have rampantly running us all into the ground. But I do think that these actions will eventually burn themselves out. Take AI replacing workers. If that happens, there won't be enough customers to buy AI products. So they will mostly go out of business and become a taboo. Instead there will likely be a balance.
The same is true of all the stuff you are mentioning. I think we are reaching a tipping point where these bad business practices and bad financial government practices are all coming to a head. Our economies are based so much on credit, and we are running out of credit to borrow worldwide. And, these corporate corruptions of government free democracy are all kind of back firing. I think in the next four years there will be an uprising of the population, much like what happened after the Hoover presidency, and I think that will result in some major law changes for the better. Not perfect, but better. I also think that we will see a LOT of these high profile compani s get broken up and go bankrupt. Take the insurance industry. It has become so toxic that they are getting close to being not worth it. They don't pay out as much as they cost for most of us. So I think we will see alternatives start to pop up.
But then again, maybe I am just sticking my head in the sand because it feels safer to be ignorant.
