The Canyonlands is custom fantasy steampunk setting that can be used with any system, but is meant to be played with OpenD6.

This community is for both world building, and play by post.

The basics of the setting are a Canyon 20,000Km long north to south, 1000Km wide east to west, and 20km deep.

Each side of the Canyon is terraced into 5 distinct layers, with 4km tall cliffs at the boundary of each layer.

The cliffs of the Canyon are riddled with caves, both natural and carved, but strange magics in the rock twist size and distance. A short journey into the depths may take you to the opposite side of the world, or to a cave a kilometer to the north.

There are 15 Major deities in Canyon 1, with dozens of minor deities spread around the various cities.

Altonius was the first, and is the eldest of the gods, and the most powerful. He is the god of Hunters and Fire.

Altonius rose to power before the invention of agriculture, and has managed to retain power and belief due to his most used Blessing. A simple ward that keeps hostile creatures from entering into light cast by any fire. This protection is not completely foolproof, but it has allowed civilization to flourish.

Priests of Altonius tend to pick one aspect or the other, but rarely both. Hunters of Altonius tend to become almost primitive, living in the wilds for months at a time hunting different animals and monsters. Their magics giving them control over nature, be it plants or animals.

Priests of the Fire on the other hand, tend to stay put in villages and cities, with the occasional raid on some monster den within a short journey of their home. Their magic is pure Fire. What that means is more complex, but generally boils down to being able to conjure and shape fire. The truly talented can use fire in ways that should not be possible.

Breeth rose to godhood several thousand years after Altonius, but was not the second god to rise, she's just the oldest survivor after Altonius. Breeth is the Godess of Memory and History.

The main blessing of Breeth is such, offer her a simple prayer and you'll instantly remember whatever it was you were trying to, or sometimes, you remember something important that had slipped your mind.

All priests of Breeth are lorekeepeers, scribes, librarians, and teachers. Breeth's clergy operate libraries in most larger towns, and several larger libraries with redundant copies of every book ever written. All available for a small fee.

The Clergy of Breeth pays adventures quite well for new books, or other books found while adventuring.

More gods and goddesses to be added.
