This is a community for the game of cricket. I don't know if there's one for bugs yet.

Stop Clock in Test Cricket: I think giving the bowling team a lil time to discuss plans is a good thing, you get better cricket out of it. But time is an issue, so how do you cut it? Easy, bowl 2 overs from each end. Inspiration from the hundred. The time you're cutting this way is from the end change and field change (plus ads which is why it hasn't happened) instead of strategizing and players taking a sip of water.

Saliva rule: What a bullshit in between move, its not legal to do but if you do it, meh, we dont care. Although OK listening to their reasoning it's a reasonable rule. I just prefer if we remove saliva and sweat and offer some sort of saline solution or smth which the umpire holds and the players can use, the only substance allowed to touch the ball.

DRS protocol: I like it. Always wanted it.

Combined reviews: I preferred the older method. I'm very pro bowling if you can't tell lol.

Fairness of catch: Fixes a problem that needed fixing. Good decision.

Deliberate short run: I like it.

Subs (in domestic cricket, possibly): Finally (slippery slope though). I prefer proper subs to injury subs.

broadcasters would not allow this. I agree with your general sentiment, but advertiser usually sneak in 30-40 s of ads in this time, and if we do not change ends for 2 overs, then essentially total break time would be halved. there still would be some small window where bowler will collect their items from umpire, and next bowler comes, so not halved, but more like 30% dip in breaks, and that is 30% dip in ad revenue.

I’m very pro bowling

My man. Game currently is way too much in batters court. Recent ind vs eng match basically was a display of very ipl esque batting and flat pitches. I did not expect a full time bowler, who has bowled atleast 10 overs to have a economy over 6; especially a fast bowler.

Deliberate short run: I like it.

will ask the fielding team to decide which batter they want on strike.

This seems a tad too powerful. Especially, becausee decision that a short run was deliberate or not is still largely subjective (how far do you have to be from the crease line for it to be deliberate or just accidentally short. and if the batter is not looking vs looking at his bat/feet as they approach the crease line)

Now refering to linked article

Also, can we please nearly get rid of umpires call. I kinda hate it. Especially, wickets hitting being less than 50%. If the trajectory known is not precise, then there should be changes done to predict trajectory better. In last 10 years, the measurement has approved, with better/cheaper cameras, which now record at even higher rates (hence, we would have more precise and larger amount of data), but the 50% has been the same. 50% should at least be decreased to something like 10%. Practically, if there is no contact involved with body, bails get removed with any reasonable amount of impact, so even 10% touching would dislodge the bails.

So if there is an appeal for an lbw as well as a run out, the TV umpire would now first take up the leg-before review as that occurred first. In case the batter is out, then the ball would be declared dead.

Thank you, it had to be done.

The injury will need to be evident and visible to the match officials before they allow a full-time replacement. This would not apply for players suffering hamstring pulls or niggles.

this "not applies to hamstring/ niggles" is bad imo, because these are one of the most common form of injuries one can get. I get the idea that these are also easy to fake, but maybe icc officials can allow one (or both) team physios to check the player, and verify if the injury is sub worthy or not. In recent memory, tim david (some ipl match I do not remeber exactly, but towards the end of season) got a hamstring pull. Most fast bowlers keep getting niggles because that is the demand of fast bowling on the body.

I really dislike the broadcaster excuse. Simply because they can't make a decision anyways, nor have a say. The ICC can apply the rule and we have a pathway to follow thanks to the hundred. What's gonna happen? The broadcasters bid lower amounts in the next cycle. OK, fine (although they likely won't) they can simply increase the value of the advertisement slots since the supply is lower now. If ad time falls by 30%, the revenue would fall by less than that. Plus once we see it succeed, the revenue goes up again. So a small revenue bump for one cycle is nothing.

Oh in tests we are at a historically bowling friendly point, I believe 3 of the last 5 years have been in the 5 lowest average years since 1900 or so. (This is by memory, would have to check again)

I dont think picking the batter is that big a benefit. Maybe so in the white ball formats but I still like it.

I'm pro umpires call lol. Partially bc umpires have the direct view and partially bc the company running drs themselves say its better to trust the judgement of the umpires in the case. I dont understand why like 90% of the cricket fanbase is anti umpires call. It isn't objective. Also it's not like the bails always fall off on contact anyways (although I do think we should remove bails and make any contact a dismissal anyways)

The injury sub is a slippery slope. Its impossible to govern. I say just allow straight subs instesf of limiting it to injuries.
