but that will drive down engagement! what will happen with the engagement numbers without mass produced addictive videos!?

They HAVE to say they're doing this, even if they aren't actually going to do anything about it.

These platforms are garbage. All these 10 minute videos with padded fluff with no real substance, just so they can get paid. Cant make a 9:59 video or you won't get paid.

The platforms suck. But you really have to have some sympathy for the scale of the issue.

A major solution would be to stop allowing anyone and everyone to upload content. To enforce identity checks, have onboarding fees, have content reviewed by a human causing delays in publishing, etc.

And this is only about slop, not violence, CSAM, radicalization, fake and misleading political information, etc etc.

Fuck the platforms, they are why society is where it is right now. But damn is it a gnarly problem.

Platform moderation is a monumental burden. One that the fediverse has yet to really reckon with, due to how small it is.
