Either dig up an old DVD or pirate something with full surround that has that intro.

Oh shit I didn't even think of that. This dudes a gen x-er as nerdy as they come (just not with computers apparently), so I'd be surprised of he doesn't have that already.
Some of the soundbites I'm seeing online are from SW ep 1, which I can almost guarantee is already part of his collection.
Maybe https://m.soundcloud.com/michael-carleton/thx-deepnote-96khz-32bit-pcm
Also, the actual THX uploaded copies of Deepnote support 5.1 surround.
That link looks promising - is there a way to see how make audio channels a webpage is trying to use?
Extracting that sound file gives a .m3u8 that links to other sound files on the web, but they give an access denied if I try to visit them individually (which.... how is it playing as a .m3u8 if I don't have access to the individual complements?? /headscratch). At least, I'm assuming each link is separate channel that they all just play in unison?
THX uploads... to YouTube? I that that was limited to only two channels?
For the first bit: look up a SoundCloud downloader. There's a million.
For the YouTube bit: this link explains. You can also use a YouTube downloader to get the high quality sound files that should have the full spectrum of channels. You can confirm it works by hearing the individual sound playing through the speakers, and depending on your desktop, the audio mixer should show the individual channel activity output. There's a million other sound and audio mixers out there as well if the default doesn't do what you want.
