/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I have two theories. Section 31 was terrible at recruiting covert ops and we've seen their blundering over and over again on the small screen. Or, they were very good at covert ops and we've only seen the few times they misjudged the morality of their operatives.

I'm a carpenter. If I do my job well, you won't know I was there at all.

I don't recall O'Brien's mission as being under Section 31, but rather the Federation's own special ops. Certain decisions/actions were still above board and part of why it ate away at the chief.

Your point stands that we've only seen them at their bumbling worst. Shouldn't trust an augmented doctor with a conscience.

DS9 is a bit like coffee. Some people don't like it. Some people love it immediately. If you don't like it and keep consuming it, chances are you're going to develop a taste for it.

Terry Ferrell is consistently amazing in it. Sid is great, except when he's phoning it in because he's pissed with what the writer's room did to his character. Avery Brooks is consistently overacting, but I think he does it in such a way that it works. René Auberjonois manages to bring incredible depth of character to his role. Nana Visitor was the perfect choice to play her character. She's very believable. Colm Meaney absolutely nailed the nuance that is occasionally required for Chief O'Brien, my only complaint is that he has no chemistry with his on-screen wife (who appears less often as the show goes on.)

When Michael Dorn joined the show as Worf, it felt like they got things really right. It probably helps that Ronald D. Moore came onboard just before that, bringing storytelling improvements with him.

Armin Shimmerman, Andrew Robinson, Jeffrey Combs, Marc Alaimo are all show stealers when they appear.

I started rewatching it about a month ago and just made it into season 4, no regrets on the time spent.

Shoulda kept my own mouth shut, since you managed to convey the idea...

Ah but unlike coffee DS9 is actually pretty good.

This is Chief engineer Miles O'Brien from Star Trek The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Both shows have their ups and downs, but are overall worth the time investment.

As for the crazy evil characterization in the memes... well, that's just speculative fun on our part. He's a sweetheart, really.

Completely biased but it's the best of 90s trek because it dares to break the episodic formula and have season spanning stories. Ensemble cast of characters so we get plenty of varied stories interlaced.

It's not perfect, there's a few moments where clearly they were building to a thing and either didn't know how to pull it off or executive meddling forced them to do something else (Julian and Garak's relationship one of the most noticable)

It's a bit dated on visuals but still holds up rather well. A lot of them social commentary disturbingly relevant today. First season is a bit weird (basically a cardinal rule in star trek at this point) but really finds its feet and goes strong around season 2.
