Nah don't slow it down, let all these big corporations cannibalize themselves so we can rebuild on top of their corpses.

I don't know. Too many more oranges or vegetables in the White House and even more security state integration with social media companies and we'll end up with full-blown Fascism. The longer they stay in power, the higher the chance is that they can lobby for the Fediverse to be banned, because the usual "won't anyone think of the children", "misinformation" and muh terrorism reasons.

I'd rather the Fediverse eats them before we wait for them to collapse.

What if we just wait it out for a few years, let all the olds die. And then we build a new society on top of their corpses?

We've been waiting it out since at least the 60s. Probably well before then in the enlightenment era, someone had to have said that, and the pope is still a thing.

These people have children. They aren't going to die out.

It surprises me how many people are optimistic about legal solutions. OTOH, right to repair progress from the EU so maybe this is more feasible than I give it credit for. Doesn't seem like a red vs blue issue, both are trending anti-tech these days.

What is enshittification?

The phenomenon of online platforms gradually degrading the quality of their services, often by promoting advertisements and sponsored content, in order to increase profits. (Cory Doctorow, 2022, extracted from Wikitionary) source

The lifecycle of Big Internet

We discuss how predatory big tech platforms live and die by luring people in and then decaying for profit.

Embrace, extend and extinguish

We also discuss how naturally open technologies like the Fediverse can be susceptible to corporate takeovers, rugpulls and subsequent enshittification.
