How do I subscribe? (programming.dev)

I am browsing subscribed@programming.dev, but I get this error. How do I subscribe to communities on other instances? This is a huge barrier to entry.

Yes, this bug really needs to be resolved. I hope it's a high priority.

This definitely needs to be fixed ASAP. Both wefwef and connect allow you to easily subscribe to communities from outside of your own instance, which is pretty essential as a new user trying to migrate from Reddit. Until it's fixed, it's hard to recommend liftoff to less tech savvy friends which is a shame because the rest of the app is far superior to the competition.

Go to settings > instances and long press to remove any instance you're not logged into

You can do it from your browser, log in to your instance and search for !turnbasedstrategy@lemmy.world or alternatively Lemmy.world/c/turnbasedstrategy, if it gives you zero results wait 10 to 30 seconds, then click on the result that says for example “turnbasestrategy - 1 subscriber” and join the community from there

Yeah but that's just not convenient for your average Joe. Doesn't matter now, since they've implemented the feature to subscribe from other instances.

Seems to be a bug in your chosen client. You don't need to be logged in to remote instances to subscribe to communities on them.

This question was posted in the community of their client (liftoff).

Liftoff allows searching on other instances than the one you are currently signed into. But if you open a community through that search, you can not subscribe.

If you search through the community you are signed in, it works as expected.

Right, but I'm posting in the Liftoff community because this feature should be added to Liftoff. In fact, looks like it was added just one day after I posted.
