Wasn't there another river that recently experienced historic lows, and carvings were found? I think I remember that the thought on that spot was that the carvings had to do with indicating the low point because it was significant at that time.

I think it was somewhere in eastern Europe, and the carving translated to 'if your seeing this there will be another famine'
