AirVPN has port forwarding and claims not to keep logs I believe
I think a couple of years ago I read a lengthy privacy review of VPN providers and AirVPN was part of the “13 eyes”.
They claim not to keep logs but who knows. I use them since it’s just to keep a torrent server and also use it for streaming content in different countries. They do have an extensive list of available servers around the world and the bandwidth is pretty good.
My 2 cents!
If you mean part of the 14 eyes, it wouldn't really be AirVPN that's part of it, but rather the government of the nation they're located in (Italy I think?). It means nothing about AirVPN itself, unless they do actually keep logs, in which case it'd mean that other 14 eyes member nations can ask the Italian government to tell AirVPN to hand over the logs pertaining to some citizen of their own nation that they can't otherwise spy on.
Thank you for chiming in and expressing correctly what I was trying to convey.
as you may know, Mullvad VPN is disabling port forwarding 1st of July, which is a pity if you are serious about building that ratio.
Wow wtf I didn't know this.
Damn my ISP is being shit about allowing router access and port forwarding, so I was using their port forwarding as a way to get around that.
Wow wtf I didn’t know this.
https://mullvad.net/en/blog/2023/5/29/removing-the-support-for-forwarded-ports/
They already disabled the possibility to add new port forwards and will remove any existing ones completely on 1st of July.
Damn, I'll try to contact my ISP tomorrow and try to sort out the static IP and port forwarding - literally I just use it for my hosting video games with my family and stuff.
So I've decided to stop paying for VPNs or Seedboxes recently after the mullvad news. I setup i2p and now just do torrenting exclusively through there. It is private and self-hosted, so no dealing with dmca notices. I believe i2p is the future of torrenting.
you got a guide you could link to? I tried getting into i2p before but I dont see the immediate connection between i2p and torrenting.
Thanks in advance.
So there are 2 main implementations of i2p. First is the main dev's Java client here https://geti2p.net/en/download
The other is i2pd, which is C++.
I use the Java one personally but both would work. Someone posted back on reddit a guide on /r/i2p for qbittorrent, which is what I use now for this too. The guide was shared as a public torrent you can download with this info hash: 3f1d51095f9b116739172c1bced149acf2b10692
Use that hash with any of the various public trackers and you should be able to download that guide.
But if you just want a basic setup, that Java client comes with i2psnark, which is a bittorrent client already setup.
The only other thing you want to do is go and search the biggest tracker for stuff, which is called PaTracker, Postman's tracker. http://tracker2.postman.i2p, only accessible from i2p itself, which you'll need to have setup and running first to view.
you are a saint! thank you!
i2p? Really? It's painfully slow for browsing alone.. I can't imagine it's much better when downloading torrents.
Went with Proton since already using mail. Specifically has an icon indicating servers to use with P2P in the apps. Not the cheapest and the Linux app is lacking but otherwise no complaints, comparable to mullvad.
I also use proton, only because I started using it for free to watch region locked shit. haven't tried any others. note- none of the free servers support p2p traffic
That's weird cos I to torrent on ProtonVPN free all the time. However if I try to download more than 1 torrent at a time both torrent stops.
IIRC they only allow it via their client though no?
I'm not interested in their app at all since it's going to run as headless docker gateway for qbittorrent/radarr/sonarr/other shit anyway, but - it seems like they support proper NAT-PMP which is massive.

Moved to Airvpn.. it works decent. Can't get same speeds as with Mullvad, though you can spin 5 devices meaning you can utilize better the bw.. their exit instances have 1Gbps connections shared with all users connected to the node.
Thanks for the post, I didn't know about that at all.
Privacy Guides are recommending IVPN: Link
I think I will be switching there. Any experiences with their service?
They are claiming ProtonVPN port forwarding only works with Windows, however this is only relevant if you are using protonvpn app.
You can still generate wireguard config with nat-pmp support.

What the fuck i had no idea about that. I literally just paid for a years worth of service 🤦
They are now refunding past their 30-day money back period if you didn't use cash. Just got a refund for a top-up made in February.
such a pro, thank you for all this info!
