‘Believe’ is a trite song with her using a shitty autotuned voice.
How did it change anything for the better except escorting in a massive wave of more autotuned dross.
The auto tune isn’t supposed to be hidden, it’s used as an effect in the song. It’s obvious that it’s on purpose and anyone who thinks otherwise is really into huffing their own farts.
Now, it seems like Cher is taking credit for making dance music popular, which it already was. Believe didn’t change shit. That’s where Cher is huffing her own farts.

Although...she probably shouldn't compare herself to rock bands when the song she is most associated with---at least from a millennial standpoint---was written by half a dozen men (maybe... probably).
The rich and famous always forget how many people they had to step on to make it to the top, including in this case, her own fucking band. Cher and RRHoF are both shams.
She said nothing about making it better.
Hate the RRHOF with a passion. Sure they've given recognition to a few good acts that were overlooked in the past, but so many talented and amazing individuals and bands have just been entirely overlooked. I know they can only induct a few a year and you gotta wait a really long time to be inducted, but there are a lot of bands and people who have gone decades without being recognized by that organization.
My personal gripe is over Joy Division / New Order. Joy Division basically founded post-punk, gothic rock, etc. and New Order went on to become legends in the Synthpop scene in the wake of Ian's death. Eligible since 2004.
The only good thing I've seen come out of it was when Yes reunited to play Roundabout back in 2017. That performance is gold.

Joy Division? Highly recommend a listen. They were a small-time post-punk / gothic rock band from England formed in 1976, and their popularity exploded in 1980. They only made 2 albums before the lead singer committed suicide, and I think the second album came out shortly before his death. They were fairly popular during their short time. Lots of major bands in that genre and outside that genre can trace their inspiration to Joy Division. They pretty much changed "punk" and "working class" music forever.
New Order was formed by the remaining members of Joy Division and slowly transition to becoming more synth pop. You've probably heard their hit single "Blue Monday," which has almost 200M views on youtube. They were pretty much pioneers in the genre and the same that I said with Joy Division is the same with New Order. Lots and lots of bands sprung up in New Order's wake.
Sorry, I meant the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, i have zero idea of who they are.
I second this recommendation. Their most famous songs are also widely covered by lots of bands---not all of them good---who managed to release them as singles and b-sides like the New Dawn Fades cover by Moby or the 1998 Blue Monday cover by Orgy. Beyond that their music has been sampled by everyone from Kraftwerk to Rihanna.
I respect Cher, but 'Believe' is absolutely terrible. It drove me crazy how much it got played back in the day.
Sure, but it was the popular advent of autotuning. It unequivocally did change music forever.
Just because it was the first hit to use what was expensive tech at the time doesn't mean much. If not for her, someone else would have had a hit using it eventually as poorer artists could afford it.
