Spent some time looking for what specific bumblebee, digger bee, or carpenter bee this might be. Couldn't figure it out.

I ran the photo through iNaturalist and it suggested a group of flies I've never seen before- broadly Tachinidae, and more narrowly it zeroed in on the genus Adejeania. Seems like a safe guess in terms of location, too!

Yyyup this is the one! Coloration is closer than the Bee Fly which another suggested. Big thanks! I'm still up on the mountain and I couldn't really get iNaturalist to work.

Thanks! With your help, I think it's a Lordotus pulchrissimus. A.k.a the Desert Bee Fly

Edit: NVM @Toadvark@mander.xyz has a closer match.
