I got 3 dm's or so too. Is it some social experiment?

[–] Achyu 10 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Have you invited people to the fediverse?

[–] Achyu 2 points 1 month ago

Some mashup song that combines 5-6 songs

It is indeed cool. Thank you.
Any others, generally ones that speak about policies or outlooks?

[–] Achyu 7 points 1 month ago (7 children)

Which type of music do you like?

Any leftist/Marxist/LiberationTheology type songs that you like?

They probably expect to age and die before it goes off for good

[–] Achyu 2 points 1 month ago

Leftist and awareness programme content

Like, smoking/tobacco is an issue in my country, India.
We had 'The lung is like a sponge' awareness short playing before movies and also testimonials of folk who chewed tobacco. Together with stricter enforcement of anti-public smoking laws, I think smoking has reduced a lot.

YT channels

I think you can get rss feeds for them
https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id<channel_id>
The channel link has the <channel_id>

e.g.
Link for Boy Boy's Channel https://youtube.com/channel/UC_S45UpAYVuc0fYEcHN9BVQ
Link to rss feed

Isn't 1984 a fictional book?

Have heard people say online that Inventing Reality and Manufactured Consent are better than that for analysis.

Haven't read any of those books tho.
Which would be better?

[–] Achyu 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Cool. Which are your fav movies and shows?

[–] Achyu 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

If the people have the awareness, they'll probably not vote like that, right? Unless there's some greater/immediate concern for them

[–] Achyu 9 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Then they should smartly increase awareness in the public and make changes, right?

NetGuard - https://f-droid.org/packages/eu.faircode.netguard/
TrackerControl - https://f-droid.org/packages/net.kollnig.missioncontrol.fdroid/

How was your experience with them? Differences in battery life etc.

Another doubt:
I had tried NetGuard some years ago to restrict internet access of apps like Gboard n Gdrive(I use the pdfviewer associated with it. Any lightweight foss alternatives to it?).
Was planning to use it again, but saw that eventhough they have a recent update, their Github doesn't allow issues and the latest pull request are from 2023. Is there some change in the app? Have they transferred to Gitlab or Codeberg.

I don't know much details about programming, so asking the doubt here because of the Simple apps transfer issue that I heard recently.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Mentioned the usecase for gdrive

Or ones that you'd like to recommend to others?
Ones available under copy-left licenses too.

I use f-droid to update the app. Didn't see the recent updates and saw the failed build after a search.
https://monitor.f-droid.org/builds/log/com.jerboa/71#site-footer

I don't know much about programming... not sure whether this is an issue to be resolved from the side of Jerboa or F-droid. Had doubts whether I should inform of the issue in Jerboa's github and sharing this here because of that.

F-droid seems to have done a recent cleanup of apps, focusing on non-foss stuff. Not sure if that has an effect, but sharing the info.
https://f-droid.org/en/2024/07/18/twif.html

^Maybe related:
Builds of com.dessalines.thumbkey:96 and com.dessalines.rankmyfavs:11 seem to have failed too.
https://monitor.f-droid.org/builds/build (The page lists failed builds at the end)

Anyone know where the issue is to be notified to? Or where I can learn more about the issue? I did try to read the log file and this message seems noteworthy:

No hash for gradle version 8.9! Exiting.

I don't keep auto-sync on repositories turned on and use an rss feed from the fdroid subredd to follow updates to the repo.
I also know of https://monitor.f-droid.org/builds.

Are there any other methods or official feeds?

If not favorite, ones that touched you in some way.

I'll start by mentioning some movies from my mother tongue(Malayalam of Kerala, India):

  • Mumbai Police
A crime thriller (Came out almost 2 decades ago n was very striking for the time)
  • KammaraSambhavam
Political/Historic satire/drama (The main actor has some cases on him, but the movie is quite good)
  • Kathavasheshan
  • Devasuram
Conservative sigma male upper class Kerala dude getting character development. I really liked how the transformation happened in it
  • Maheshinte Parthikaaram (Mahesh's Revenge)
    Not an action movie.

From my country, but not in my mother tongue:

  • Super Deluxe - A Tamil movie that I recently watched, quite unique
  • Enthiran (Robot), a Tamil movie
Has over the top stuff, but is fun to watch
  • Viduthalai(Liberation), another Tamil movie
  • Agent Vinod - A Hindi spy-comedy movie

The anime that I like are Hunter x Hunter, Parasyte, Samurai Flamenco, Gintama.

Especially ones that you find useful on android Firefox, as they seem to be less popular?

Recently got to know about bookmarklets due to a thread here in this community itself:
https://lemm.ee/comment/12623456
^An unrelated question: Is there some way to link comments so that they are automatically opened in home instances for eveyone, like how we can link communities and usernames currently?^

Some interesting/useful bookmarklets that I know of:

  1. Bullshit.js as mentioned in that link
  2. dotepub. It does say that data is sent to their server.
For some sites it's better than the inbuilt save as pdf option.
  3. A bookmarklet that opens the current site in G-translate
  4. Saw a bookmarklet which works like reader mode.

The freecodecamp article on bookmarklets maybe useful for those new to it(It helped me). It seems cool.
https://wiki.greasespot.net/User_Script_Hosting links to sources for userscripts. Most of them seem to be desktop-centric.

Which are your favorites? Any cool ones that you have made on your own?

  • I have recently started using RSS feeds to get news and other information. It is quite time-saving.
  • Recently found out that word could open pdfs for edits. Used to upload pdfs to websites to get it converted into some editable format. I think Libreoffice can do the same.
  • Got that spinning type of mop and mopping has become a bit easier.

Newpipe and Just (video) player have this function, but the former cannot play offline files and the latter cannot play audio files. I can rename the audio file to mp4 and play it in Just player, but it doesn't have a background play option.

From what I've searched on the net, in both apps the feature us implemented from ExoPlayer. On F-droid, Auxio audio player mentions ExoPlayer, but does not seem to have the feature available.
Are there any foss apps that has the feature to Skip silence for audio files?

I got introduced to it in the R site.
Links, formatting and tables. Tables are awesome.

I use Markor on Android. The search/replace feature's regex option makes formatting data into tables easier.
