I'm from small town VT just across the river, and while that hasn't been my personal experience I absolutely have known people who have had that experience. Small town USA is unbelievably messed up, but everyone likes to act like its only in the cities. Felt like half my town was Section 8, and an actual full 10th of the population was from the county jail on furlough. Since I've left, violent crime/murder rate has gone up a lot and heavy drug use is rampant.

I'm sorry dude.

Idk about you but I paid $2 for a single white onion the other day at Safeway. At this point even home cooking is $$$, it's insane. My farmer friends aren't exactly making more from their crops either.

I did 6 months using my electrical engineering degree working for a provincial power utility. Every day felt like Office Space, and I could feel myself aging with every day. Soul crushing experience categorized by florescent lights and grey quarter cubicles.

I no longer use my electrical engineering degree and my life is much better.

What Wikipedia fails to mention is the true reason for why Italy stopped following "passar battaglia". Many scholars believed it was due to international pressure to follow the more common "en passant" when in fact it was largely due to more efficient production and subsequent adoption of bricks in Italy, thereby enabling games involving "passar battaglia" to conclude with a bricked pipi. Previously, the dearth of bricks allowed "passar battaglia" to occur without bricking the players pipi.

As Italians didn't like having their pipis bricked, they adopted "en passant" and dropped "passar battaglia".

At least where I live the induction coils frequently won't pick up my motorcycle, let alone my bicycle!

You fundamentally do not understand that I do not feel like I am being treated like a baby. I have zero interest in seeing tankie shit from lemmygrad. I signed up onto an instance that defederated from lemmygrad. The mods did not make an announcement, but the deferedation was publicly visible from logs. I am not bothered by this.

You're free to ask "why were the users not consulted or informed?" but you must also accept that "because we didn't want to" is a complete answer. If you don't like the answer given, then move on. The operators are not a corporation, you are not entitled to any specific level of service. Why you choose to get hostile when someone explains this to you is beyond me.

Best of luck in your lemmy adventure.

Go check out the modlog, its publicly visible. It's their instance, they can do what they want. If you dislike how the admins handle their server's federation status, make your own. I'm going to eventually because I want to control what I'm federated with, but for now I accept that I'm at the instance admin's mercy.

Shifting control to randos via federation is a double edged sword. This is the downside, from your perspective.
