It's not the same. Most people calling the 2016 election a sham will admit that Trump did technically win by the rules as written, but also think that those rules are bullshit because they allowed a multi-million person majority to be shut out in favor of a malevolent moron. The people saying Biden lost are saying he literally cheated and that there's a conspiracy of thousands of government employees collaborating to break the rules and subvert the will of the people; that the multi-million majority literally doesn't exist. This is just as disingenuous as comparing the top secret documents that Trump hid to the ones that Biden and Pence handed over immediately on request.

the misleading thing about that statistic is that there are far, far fewer wealthy people than there are normal. even with the rate of audits technically being lower, the number of audits of normal people is still far, far greater, and is where the IRS's focus truly is

Actually it's worse than nothing. Youtube promotes comments based on engagement, so while only an upvote increases the tally, voting at all still makes it more visible.

A month or two ago I got a bunch of downvotes for explaining why I didn't like a game. The people responding said it was because my comment was "too long." It was like six sentences. Why are these people on Reddit instead of Twitter?

Completely insane ruling. Wild that Kagan went across the aisle for this.

the First Amendment requires proofs of mental state

So I guess it's basically impossible to convict anyone of anything involving speech? If I yell "fire" in a crowded theater, how can you prove I wasn't having a delusion that there was a fire? Maybe there was an explosion in the movie and I was so immersed I thought it was real!

Dude had previous convictions and spent years doing this harassing, it's not like this was an isolated mental break. Truly insane.

I don't wanna celebrate deaths, but it is wild to me how much of a story this is compared to, say, the boat full of migrants that the Greek government purposely allowed to die.

Those migrants were simply people seeking a better life. They deserve far more in terms of coverage and rescue efforts than a couple of rich aholes who spent their money on a tourist trap

Well if you stopped to THINK about it for a second you'd realize that the TRUE manmade climate change is god punishing us for all kinds of LGBTQ+ depravity. Gay sex is so hot it causes global warming!

Completely insane that a judge could order that an entire family's phones be so thoroughly monitored at all. Once upon a time it was a big deal to even get a wiretap.

Noticed this several days ago. I wanted to be active in this community: https://lemm.ee/c/tf2@lemmy.ml

However, as you can see by comparing to lemmy.ml's own version of the community, lemm.ee is not properly updating comments or point totals: https://lemmy.ml/c/tf2

When I left my own comment on a post there, it did federate to other instances, but it's not being updated on lemm.ee.

I've noticed something similar with other lemmy.ml communities, large and small. Compare:

https://lemm.ee/c/steam@lemmy.ml and https://lemmy.ml/c/steam/

Politics as well:

https://lemm.ee/c/politics@lemmy.ml and https://lemmy.ml/c/politics

And probably others as well. I've checked to make sure my language isn't set to undetermined and I've also tried viewing the communities while logged out.

There's also something bugged about trying to subscribe to any of lemmy.ml's communities. They appear on my profile and feed as a sub, but visiting the communities themselves, I've been stuck on "subscribe pending" for several days. Clicking the button repeatedly to make another attempt to subscribe doesn't work. Not a huge deal since they still show up in my feed, but it might be related.

On Sunday, Reddit said that it spent its entire marketing budget on a single 5-second Super Bowl ad celebrating its role in the GameStop stocks saga

According to a couple of sources on google, a 30 second spot in 2021 was 5.5 mil. So they spent over 900k on a pathetic, useless ad. Fuck these guys.
