The device connects to a Game Boy or portable CD player (yup, not a Nintendo DS or iPod — apparently the Pedisedate also transports you to 1996)

I wonder if the writer realized that he would be transporting future readers to 2009 by referencing a DS and an iPod.

Man, the gatekeeping is wild these days.

You're allowed to like a story you grew up with as a child and also dislike its bigot author, they're not mutually exclusive. Talking about Harry Potter doesn't give Rowling magical transphobe powers; Voldemort logic doesn't work in real life. The rightsholders have already taken great strides to distance the HP property from Rowling and adopt it to be more inclusive in spite of her TERF bullshit. It's not a hate crime to like a story about child wizards anymore.

If people want to geek out about some books or movies they like, they should be allowed to do so without the insinuation that they're by default enabling transphobia or something. But the beauty of the Fediverse is that your community has just as much right to exist as any other, so as long as you can maintain a healthy, hate-free community that isn't posting a bunch of pro-Rowling bullshit, I say go for it. Anyone who would block your instance for merely existing probably isn't worth your time, anyway.

Good on them for cracking down on disposables. Absolute waste of plastics, and leaves completely viable li-ion batteries scattered around in the streets, and cause garbage trucks to catch on fire.

Shit move on restricting flavors, though. I'm an adult, I like fruity flavors, just let me have something that tastes nice. They restricted flavors here in the US, and that did absolutely nothing to mitigate teen vaping.

There will never be a real competitor to YouTube, because nobody else is willing to run at a net loss for a decade before seeing their first profitable quarter, like Google did with YouTube.

Turns out, free video hosting is expensive as fuck.

Or you could just post piracy-related things in a piracy-focused community. This isn't Facebook, go post your drama there.

For some reason, this reminds me of the origin of the term "footage", when referring to filming something. In ye olden days, film was measured in feet. So to capture video on film, you were using up a certain amount of footage/length of film.

Elon deliberately acted against a US ally and his actions directly led to the deaths of innocent civilians. He ought to have his citizenship revoked and be tried for treason.

Unity saw how Reddit killed off free users by raising prices to absurd rates, and how Reddit was largely unaffected by it as a whole. Not going to be surprised to see other types of platforms also follow suit.

So, here's what probably happened.

Physical GameStop stores will usually open a handful of new games that they receive, so that they can put the boxes on the shelves. But the boxes are empty. You take the box from the shelf for the game you want to buy, bring it to the counter, and they go into a locked drawer that has their stock of games, and they put the game into the box, and then sell it to you. This is assuming that they don't have any unopened copies available; usually they will, but if you're unlucky and happen to catch them at the end of their stock for a particular title, you might get one that's been opened so that the box can be used on display.

Unfortunately, a lot of would-be thieves don't realize that the boxes on the shelves are empty, and steal them. So if you're really unlucky, you'll get a generic box that they print out like this if they don't have any originals left. Usually these boxes are only used for used games (where they bought the game without the box), but sometimes they use them with new copies if they absolutely have to. Depending on the store and the cashier, you can sometimes get them to give you a small discount for the missing box, but I'm not sure if that's a corporate policy or not.

I believe that they can technically still sell these as "new" product, as opposed to "unused", because the product never left the store's possession during this opening/storing process, and isn't the same as a returned product being resold. So what likely went down here is that when OP ordered this game, due to availability or logistics or whatever, they sent a copy that was being held at a physical GameStop store, instead of from some warehouse.

If you're really worried about it, OP, you can probably contact GameStop and request a return or replacement for an unopened copy. In my experience, they're usually pretty understanding about that. It's an annoying extra hoop to jump through, but unfortunately that's just always been a risk one takes when buying from GameStop.

You know what's crazy? If you hadn't posted this, I would've had no idea at all that you were such a piece of shit. But now that's literally the only thing I know about you.

If you wanna go really casual, there's sites like https://movie-web.app which will let you stream most movies in decent quality.

The Internet has become soulless

Gee, I wonder what could've contributed to that.

Edit: In case the screenshot doesn't sync to all instances, the screenshot is OP's article immediately asking to send notifications to my device for a site I've never been to before that moment. If you want to know what killed the internet we used to know, it's shit like this. As soon as a page asks to send me notifications, I immediately lose trust in that page and have no inclination to spend any more time there.

For taking about big corpos disrespecting the user experience, this is certainly an ironic move.

See the quick inspect-element mockup I put together for an example. I'm bad at design, but I think it gets the point across. Current implementation on left, suggested on right. Also, I'm using Kbin Enhancement Suite for the modifications to instance names, but I think they are even more useful for this demonstration.

How it could work: If the same link is submitted across multiple communities in your current view (subscribed, favorites, all, etc) within a certain time period (probably 24 hours), then have them automatically group themselves into the same box, along with a brief list of the duplicate threads and instances. Use whichever of the threads has the highest score as the one to fill the title and thumbnail for the grouped thread.

I didn't make a mockup for this, but when clicking the thread, it could then import the comments from each of the grouped instances. Options on the sidebar could show you each of the instances whose comments are being shown on that page, along with an option to filter them out of your current feed, and options to add your votes to each instance's thread.

EDIT: To add, as I'm seeing some confusion in the comments: I'm envisioning this as a strictly user-side bundling of threads. This would only bundle threads as they are displayed to the user in their own feed based on communities you're subscribed to. So if the same link were to be posted to 5 different communities you subscribe to, when you view the feed, you'll see those 5 links all bundled together. Though perhaps an option could also include seeing non-subscribed duplicates, as well.

Seriously, I don't know what it is about this super, but it feels absolutely terrible in PVP. There's definitely something wrong with the damage resist, because it doesn't even feel like 0% DR, it feels like negative DR sometimes. I can't tell if maybe the animation just makes your hitbox an easier target or if you're actually just getting melted faster in that super, but it makes it pretty damn impossible to actually close the distance to get within killing range on most maps. Even worse if somebody's got Vorpal; you just get deleted before you even realize what hit you.

Not to mention the terrible third-person camera you're forced into for this super which makes movement an even bigger chore. I bounce so many walls trying to grapple around in this super. Half my super energy is spent on just trying to position myself so that I'm closely-aligned enough on the X axis for the rope dart to even connect with my target.

And even then, it's a coin toss whether or not it'll register a kill at all. I've had so many times where the dart 100% pierces the enemy, and it just whiffs. It's just bad in every regard. Meanwhile, Titans have like 5 different options for free OHKO melee abilities that seem to connect from halfway across Eternity sometimes.

It really makes me wish that Hunters had an exotic that gave you some sort of bonus for hanging onto your super, like Mantle of Battle Harmony or something, because I feel like I'm throwing every time I pop this super in PVP. If I ever manage to get a kill with this super, I pretty much never make it out alive. It causes me to end up hanging onto my super and not using it in some matches, because why risk feeding the enemy team a free kill when I can most likely land more kills without the super?

I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for entertaining my rant. Bungie, pls buff, thx.

Most of the other Fediverse platforms are pretty obvious to me as to what they're meant to be alternatives to. Mastodon for Twitter/Threads, PixelFed for Instagram, Lemmy for Reddit, Matrix for Discord/Slack... But I can't quite place MissKey. It doesn't really feel like any other social network I've seen before.

I've tried looking around, but most of the instances I've seen are either in Japanese or Russian so I can't really tell what I'm looking at, or have no active users to really see what the engagement is supposed to be like.

Can anyone fill me in on what MissKey is meant to be an analog to or how it's meant to be used?

A brush fire that began burning at a ranch Thursday afternoon has now grown to scorch 150 acres and is 10% contained as of just before 5 p.m.

The Llano County Office of Emergency Management posted on its Facebook page that at least 10 agencies are now responding to the fire located near East Highway 71 and County Road 307. Crews also have CR 307 shut down right now due to the ongoing response.

By 6 p.m., there were nearly 20 agencies responding to the fire, including 13 volunteer fire departments.

Initially, first responders told KXAN the fire began on a ranch property. As of 2 p.m., the growing fire caused no evacuations.

Air support from the Texas Forest Service is currently assisting with the fire, according to the Llano County Office of Emergency Management.

At last check, there are no structures currently in danger, according to Llano officials.

As of July 10, Llano County had a burn ban in place.

On Thursday, Gov. Greg Abbott ordered an additional 30 Texas Department of Public Safety troopers to Austin, according to a spokesperson with DPS.

The order comes one day after the City of Austin said it would be suspending the partnership between the Austin Police Department and DPS.

The additional troopers would bring the total number to 130, not including the troopers that work the Capitol.

DPS said overall, there would be 80 of the original troopers that began patrolling at the beginning of the partnership, the 20 Criminal Investigations Division officers that were also deployed as part of the partnership, and now the new 30 troopers.

Austin's Interim City Manager Jesús Garza has suspended the Austin Police Department's (APD) partnership with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), in consultation with Mayor Kirk Watson.

"From the start of this partnership with DPS, I said I wanted Austinites to feel safe and be safe. Recent events demonstrate we need to suspend the partnership with DPS. The safety of our community is a primary function of City government, and we must keep trying to get it right," Watson said in a statement. "This partnership was an innovative approach to address acute staffing shortages that were years in the making. However, any approach must be in sync with Austin values."

I was looking at a comment I left earlier today (several hours earlier) and realized I made a typo, and went to edit it. I'm used to Reddit putting a little asterisk next to the comment's timestamp to indicate that it was edited, but I'm not seeing anything like this on Kbin. Is this something that's tracked somewhere for users to see, or possibly something that we might see get added in as a feature in the future?
